Fat Burning Diet
If you want to lose weight you want to pursue the highest calorie burning exercises you can perform, while reducing the quantity of food you eat, and/or increasing its nutritional value. Calorie counts for some common exercises, based on a 130-pound person and one hour of exercise are:
- 944 fast running (10 mph)
- 589 kickboxing
- 496 aerobic dance
- 480 spinning
- 474 swimming, freestyle
- 472 moderate running (5 mph)
- 453 stair climbing
- 354 moderate treadmill
- 342 circuit training
- 236 yoga
- 228 Pilates
Other Factors Influence Calorie Burn
These are general numbers and actual numbers would vary based on age, intensity, instructor and stamina. For example, running is great—if you have the strength and stamina to do it intensely for 20 minutes or more. A great Spin instructor may sweat 600 calories off you in an hour, and if your aerobic dance or kickboxing instructor rocks, you can easily add 100-150 more calories to that burn.
If you’ve reached a level to do power yoga, your calorie count will go up. The same is true if you have reached an advanced level of Pilates training with a good instructor. Still, yoga and Pilates will never be powerhouse calorie burners.
